Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was a Roman architect and military engineer of the 1st century BC, author of De Architectura. His triad of firmitas, utilitas, venustas remains foundational. Rediscovered in the Renaissance, he shaped the tradition from Alberti to Palladio.
